Summer Beauty Favourites | June & July 2015

This summer I have discovered a couple of goodies that I have found myself constantly using on a day-to-day basis, mainly due to its longevity on my face in the hot summer weather. The items I would like to share with you in this blog post includes a gel eyeliner, a foundation, a mascara, a brow gel and an upper lip hair plucker (sounds a bit weird – I know)!

First on the list is the Smashbox Jetset Waterproof Gel Liner in Deep Black. I believe there are two colours to choose from for this eyeliner (dark brown and black). I first heard about this eyeliner from StyleSuzi, where she shared her top 5 waterproof eyeliners. I find that a lot of Suzi’s recommendations are very on point and a lot of the time works for me too. Therefore, I decided to try it out. I got this from Boots for £16 and then obviously, I had to get an eyeliner brush to go with it, and I went for the Real Techniques 202 Angled Liner, which cost £10.

My god – this is my new favourite eyeliner of the year! I normally use liquid eyeliners and was always on the lookout for a more natural finish, as I find that a liquid liner gives quite a hard, solid line, which can come across as looking too harsh. I find that the Smashbox gel liner is really black in colour, which I love. But at the same time it also looks very natural on my eyes. The most amazing thing about this product is its long-lasting effects. Just to test it out, I went to a fitness class with this product on and I had a proper sweat out sesh and this bad boy stayed put on my eyes and didn’t even smudge a tiny bit, which was very impressive, given my oily eyelids. I now use this whenever I decide to wear eyeliner and I even use it on nights out because I seriously love how it does not budge, no matter how sweaty you get. I’d highly recommend this to you guys, especially for the hot summer days, particularly if you live in a humid city like Hong Kong! Oh and another plus side about product is that you can get really close to the lash line, unlike a liquid eyeliner, which is great.

Second on the agenda is the L’oreal Infallible 24H-Matte Foundation. I would say that I have combination skin, with an oily T-zone. It provides medium to high coverage and is also very light weight on the skin. It sets quite quickly, therefore you have to work it into your skin fairly quickly. This foundation really impressed me.

It’s impressive because it does what it says, which is to make your face matte! It definitely helps control oil production and I personally much prefer this compared to a dewy finish. Its very long lasting. Again, I have been out in the sun in this, where I have been sweating (not profusely) but a normal amount and this has managed to stay put on my face without leaving dry patches or smudging. A big thumbs up to L’oreal!

I have been using this magical wand for quite some time now. I’d say around 4 years! This is my second wand which I got it off e-bay for I think under £5. What it does is that it gets rid of the little hairs on your upper lip. It acts as a tweezer, but it works in a twisty motion, and it plucks the hairs from your skin as you roll it upwards. I’m not gonna lie but it does hurt a lot! The first few times I used this, I definitely teared up, but after 4 years, I have pretty much become immune to the pain. I use this around once a week to keep my upper lip well groomed and hairless.

Next up is Maybelline’s Brow Drama in Dark Brown. My hair is naturally black in colour, with a bit of ombre at the ends. Therefore, I think it looks more natural to have dark brown eyebrows. A brow gel really helps keep all your little hairs in place so that they don’t go wonky :P To me, it really finishes off the look and sets the brow powder and pencil in place and prevents it from smudging. This brow gel has a small rounded wand, which makes it really easy to sweep the product across your eyebrows. Some  brow gels can end up being too gloopy and doesn’t create a good consistency, but Maybelline’s brow gel does a great job at this and I think it is mainly down to the well shaped wand.

The final product that I’d like to write about is Urban Decay’s Cannonball Ultra Waterproof Mascara. It is indeed ”ULTRA” waterproof. I have been using this for two years now and I thought I’d bring it up because of the summer heat! For those of you going to pool parties and boat trips, this is THE ideal mascara to use. It is sooo waterproof and doesn’t smudge or fall off, which is absolutely amazing! I wish someone told me about this product earlier on!!! Not only is it mega waterproof, but it also does a fantastic job of holding a curl. I cannot give enough praise to this mascara. This is my 3rd tube now, which proves to you how much I value this mascara. A bit on the pricier side compared to drugstore mascaras which retails at £15.50, but in my opinion its completely worth it.

Hope you’re having a great summer and keep enjoying life ;)

Lots of Love,

  1. I also love the Smash Box gel liner! I have it in dark brown and I use it everyday – absolute favourite of mine! I was thinking of getting the cannonball mascara as I’ve hear so many great things about it!

Great post – thanks for sharing.
