Today I would like to share with you my favourite face makeup item of the summer, the NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser. This tinted moisturiser has been in the market for around 2 years now and I have heard many positive reviews about it, so I decided to put it to the test. If you live in Hong Kong, you’d know what the weather is like – very hot and humid in the summer months, making it impossible to stay sweat-free when you are out and about in the city. So naturally you’d have to change up your make-up routine a bit, and swap heavier foundations for lighter formulas to avoid a cakey face that is bound to melt in the heat.
I normally use the Missha BB and CC creams throughout the year when my skin tone is lighter. But in the summer, I like to get tanned, therefore need a darker shade to match up to the rest of my body. NARS’s Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser is my first ever tinted moisturiser and I cannot tell you how much I am in love with this product!
And here are the reasons why:
1 – Evens out my complexion: I have a bit of redness around my face and this tinted moisturiser really helps to even out my complexion, while keeping my skin looking real and natural. This tinted moisturiser provides low coverage. It has quite a watery formula, therefore applies in a very thin layer. If you don’t have many blemishes this is a great pick to achieve an even complexion.
2 – Extremely light weight: This is one of the most important qualities I look for in a tinted moisturiser. I wanted something very light, which would enable me to achieve a “no-make up” make-up look. This product satisfied me completely. It does not feel cakey on the skin at all and gives you a very natural finish.
3 – Has SPF: I wear SPF even during the winter months, so it is great that this tinted moisturer is built in with SPF30 PA+++. Though if you only apply a very thin layer, you might not actually get the full SPF30 protection. So what I like to do is to apply 2 layers on my cheek area where I have the most freckles. But if I were going out on a boat trip or a day of outdoor actives, then I would wear pure SPF50 PA+++ sunscreen.
4 – Good colour range: Unlike bb/cc creams, NARS’s tinted moisturisers come in 6 shades and I am using the shade “Annapurna”. I am considering in continuing using this product but in a lighter shade when I head back to the UK in September because I am soo in love with it :) .
5 – Waterproof: It is waterproof in the sense that it will stay put even if you have been sweating from walking around outdoors on a hot day. I am a very sweaty person, especially on my upper lip, nose and forehead area and I can assure you that this stuff stays put! Also, if I am heading to the gym in the evening after a whole day out, I won’t bother taking off my make up. And even after profuse sweating from physical activity, the tinted moisturiser has stayed put, which is awesome!!
I wouldn’t wear any face make-up apart from sunscreen if I were going on a boat trip, or to the pool because I know I’ll be getting my face fully wet and will be wiping my face with my hand. In these instances I would avoid wearing any face make up.
I have used this product every single day starting from the beginning of June and I suspect I will still be using it, up to the end of September when my tan starts fading. I think 1 bottle will last a full 4 months if you use it every day.
Another product I have been loving is Too Cool For School’s Dinoplatz Pearl Bay Invasion. This was gifted to me by a friend back in May and in the beginning I was not too sure of it’s purpose. It is a highlighter/illuminator which can be used for multiple purposes. Some people like to use it as a base before they apply foundation. But I think it is too shimmery for that and I don’t want to have a glistening face. Therefore, I decided to mix it in with the NARS tinted moisturer and I really like the outcome of the combo.
This is the amount I use each time. 2 parts of NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser combined with 1 part Too Cool For School Dinoplatz Pearl Invasion. I then mix it up together with my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush and apply an even coat to my entire face. With any leftover product, I would dab a second layer onto my cheeks to give me a bit more coverage, as well as SPF protection.
Too Cool for School’s Dinoplatz Pearl Invasion comes in a pump bottle, which is easily and evenly distributed. The packaging is also quite cute. But I don’t think I will purchase this item again. It is not an absolute staple item, but if it’s there I will use it.
Left: No make up
Right: With a layer of NARS’s Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser mixed in with a pump of Too Cool For School’s Dinoplatz Pearl Bay Invasion.
Can you can see that my complexion is more even?
